Hello!
Welcome to my page. My name is Jaime Garibay Jr.
I have decided to embark on the journey of helping form the minds of the
future in their Secondary Years! I worked as an Uncertified
teacher for the last three years.
During the second year, I had the privilege to hold a Letter of Permission
(LOP) and taught sciences, math, environmental sciences, and carer at various
levels. During that time, I took every opportunity to participate in all school
activities and leadership events. From getting pied on the face for charity to
volunteering at the school play after hours. It was all an amazing experience! I
fell in love with the profession instantly! This is where the culmination of my
career was meant to lead me.
My teaching pedagogy is based on many years of teaching experience and
the multiple forms of teaching have presented themselves in my life. As a worker in the service industry, since I was 16 years old, I became a manager and always tried my best to teach future servers and bartenders to give them a career they could take all over the world. As a personal trainer, I took almost ten years
of experience, training at the YMCA and all over Canada to hopefully inspire
adult students to learn to take care of their bodies and feel more
confident.
My time at the University of Northern British Columbia perhaps shaped me the
most in ways I may have not appreciated in my youth. I started an International
Studies Major in 2009, taking the opportunity to also be the Teacher’s Assistant for the Spanish classes. The professor at the time allowed me to create my laboratories based on the syllabus. This was challenging for me when I was 22 years old but later became an indispensable skill when preparing for my fitness classes, how to prepare a training session with my employees, and ultimately, how to follow a lesson plan when I was teaching uncertified, which then helped me grow into my letter of permission.
This wasn’t always the case. In 2017 I decided to return to school, and
after much debate on my academic path, I decided to become a Medical Doctor.
After finishing my degree in Health Sciences in Biomedicine with a minor in
International Studies and three years of Japanese Language Studies in 2022, I
was approached by a retired principal whom I hold in high regard as a second
mother to me, she told me to become an uncertified teacher while I applied to
medical school as I wanted to leave the service industry. My time as an uncertified
teacher helped me understand and reassess many priorities in my life. One of
them was my time with my family and friends, and the impact medical school would have on my life. The decision could not have been easier, teaching was the
career for me! When I started, it just felt like I was supposed to be there; like
I had arrived at what I was meant to do for the rest of my life. The encouragement of many other friends who have done the career for over ten years was also indispensable. Thank you all!
I hope this feeling does not change and only helps me grow in my career as an
educator. The many different eras of my life have helped me grow a solid foundation to become a proficient educator who loves all natural sciences, has a passion for drama, makeup and acting, can teach career life skills, loves the
environment, has an ease in mathematics, and can aid people in Spanish or Japanese languages. The most important skill life has given me is the ability to get people started on their path, help them build a strong foundation, and get them on
their way toward growth and success in their preferred life careers.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the other posts I have created through
my path in bringing all of these skills to the culmination as a Teacher and an Education Professional!
